The Icefjord Centre provides an exceptional journey into Greenland’s unique nature and culture with a focus on the enduring importance of the ice across space and time. The Icefjord Centre hosts both a permanent exhibition, as well as two art installations, a café and souvenir shop. The permanent exhibition, Sermeq pillugu Oqaluttuaq – The Story of the Ice, introduces the visitor to the life cycle of the ice, the abundant wildlife found in the icefjord and the long history of human settlement in the area.
Nestled on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage area of the Ilulissat Icefjord, the ancient Inuit settlement of Sermermiut is only a 15-minute walk from the Icefjord Centre along an elevated boardwalk.
In the warmer months, guests are encouraged to experience the exceptional view from the roof of the Icefjord Centre where one can enjoy a stunning view of the Ilulissat Icefjord and the icebergs from the glacier, Sermeq Kujalleq.
In the future, visitors will also be able to engage in both pre- and post-visit learning through nine short podcasts that introduce listeners to the local residents of Ilulissat. These podcasts explore their daily lives and how they have adjusted their lives to the changes of the ice as a result of a warming Arctic climate. The unique ecosystem and the shifts in seasonal temperatures because of climate change is having significant consequences for not just the wildlife, but also for the people who live in the area.

During the spring, summer and autumn months, our roof offers free access to one of Greenland's most beautiful vantage points, from where you can see beyond the icefjord Kangia. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Icefjord Centre houses two art installations, cinema, shop and café, where you as a visitor can explore and enjoy a bite to eat while the visitors' many impressions settle.
